Recruiting New Trustees

The Good Shepherd has been supporting the most disadvantaged people in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas since 1972. Our mission is to end homelessness, support recovery, and create pathways out of poverty.

We provide a range of services for people who are homeless, have multiple complex needs, vulnerable families, and people on low incomes. We work with people to obtain accommodation, move towards employment, access training or education and develop skills to build self-reliance. Our core values are hospitality, compassion, and respect. We recognise each person’s dignity and potential for growth, and work in a person-centred way.

We’re recruiting new trustees to our Board to help us achieve our strategic goals. We are particularly looking for people with extensive knowledge and expertise in:

Finance

Legal/HR

Health and social care (policy or service delivery)

Fundraising

We want our trustees to reflect the people and communities we serve. In 2023 we supported people from over 60 different countries of origin, with a wide range of backgrounds, and we would welcome applications from people from diverse communities.

At Good Shepherd we particularly value lived experience. More than half of our staff team have personal experience and so we would also welcome applicants with experience, either personally or through a loved one, of social care, homelessness, poverty, addiction and/or poor mental health.

Although we have religious roots as an organisation, our Trustees represent many faiths or none, but all share our core values.

At resent the main board meets four times a year in Wolverhampton, however, we are open to exploring a new venue for in-person meetings. We expect with reading, calls, informal conversations and other ad hoc activities, the time commitment will be up to half a day per month.

To apply, please send an up to date CV and a cover letter briefly explaining why you would like to join the Board and what you skills and experience you would contribute. Closing date for applications is Friday April 26th, 2024

For further information about the role, or to arrange a discussion, please contact our Chief Executive Tom Hayden on 01902399955 or email [email protected]
